Making Forms for Wuyi Rock Tea Packaging
Updated Project Statement:
Wuyi rock tea is a Chinese oolong tea packaging that informs the existence of Wuyi rock tea for tea drinkers in Findlay Market through appealing tea packaging.
- Traditional Chinese ink and seal art—traditional, oriental, artistic
2. Wuyi rock tea plants line — organic, fresh, simple
3. Materiality of rock and mountain — rough, tactile, natural
4. Combination of illustration and type — colorful, modern, luxury
I tried to explore different styles of the forms, integrating the visual elements from the tea leaves to its story, like where the tea was planted and what culture was trying to be delivered. I found it’s interesting to create the 4 compositions and play around with different colors, lines, shapes, and typography.
Insights:
- The red seal art style is simple and it creates a visual impact.
- Most users prefer the organic form because they like the color palettes and the contrast between thin and thick strokes of the serif fonts, which seems luxurious. The gold curve lines stand out from the green background that helps to tell the brand’s story. It is also reminiscent of the terraced fields of the tea plantation. The color used is similar to the oolong tea that has not been brewed, which can better connect with the visual elements and products.
- The materiality of rock form is unique and can be applied to the texture of the packaging.
